More than 1.5 billion discarded masks flowed into the sea in the past year

With the spread of COVID-19, a large number of garbage has been produced. An international environmental protection organization estimated that 1.56 billion masks had flown into the sea in 2020, posing a threat to the marine life. Last September, zoologists found the body of a penguin off the coast of Brazil. After autopsy, they found a complete N95 mask in its stomach.
