This cold wave lasted until the 31st, that is to say, it will accompany us through the last few days of 2020. Not only the time is long, but the intensity is also an upgraded version of the "Overlord" by many people. We know that the cold wave warning is divided into three levels: blue, yellow, and orange from low to high. The last time the cold wave orange warning was issued was in 2016.

So what does the orange warning that triggered the cold wave mean? This means that in the next two days, the daily average temperature or minimum temperature in most areas of 4 or more provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) will drop by more than 12°C, accompanied by strong winds of level 6 or higher. In some areas of two or more provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), the daily average temperature or minimum temperature dropped by more than 16℃. The cold wave in winter will cause the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the cold wave in spring and autumn will cause the lowest temperature in the Jianghuai area to drop to 4°C and the local drop to below 2°C.

Most areas in the central and eastern regions will be above 10 degrees Celsius. Most of the central and western parts of Inner Mongolia, northern Shaanxi, Shanxi, and northern Hebei, including the Northeast. In the southeastern part of China, as well as most parts of Jianghuai and Jiangnan, the temperature drop will be above 12°C, and the temperature drop in some areas can even reach 16°C."

The cold wave is accompanied by obvious windy weather. Most areas of the central and eastern regions will have northerly winds of magnitude 4 to 6, with gusts up to 9 levels. The wind will be most significant in the next two days. The rain and snow are mainly concentrated in southern Shaanxi, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, and Jiangsu will have moderate to heavy snow and even heavy snow. However, because there is less warm and humid air, the snow will not last too long, basically from the night of the 28th to the night of the 29th.

Why is this cold wave so strong? According to experts, in winter, when the cold air in Siberia accumulates to a certain intensity, it will explode southward and affect our country. This time, not only did the cold air accumulate for a long time, but there were four or five days of warming in the central and eastern regions of my country, with one rising and one falling, and one hot and one cold colliding fiercely, resulting in a particularly sharp drop in temperature. On the national minimum temperature forecast map from the 28th to the 31st, parts of eastern Inner Mongolia and northern Xinjiang have become purple from freezing, which means that the temperature in the above-mentioned areas will reach minus 28 degrees Celsius. The 0°C line in the figure has been pressed to the area near Nanling, that is to say, all areas north of Nanling have temperatures below 0°C.

The most important thing is that the time is very short, most areas complete the entire precipitation process in one day. Therefore, it has no continuous rain and snow, and it is far inferior to 2008.
